We bring women together to talk about what makes us feel safe or unsafe, and decide what we can do to help make the city a better, safer place to live.
We had some funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner fund to set up the Women’s Peacemakers project in 2017-18 starting in two neighbourhoods.
We then had funding from Stoke on Trent City Council to widen the project to include women from two other areas of the city.
In 2022 we worked in Shelton funded by the Police Fire and Crime Commissioner and Shelton Speaks.
A group of women met regularly and get to know each other in a trusted environment.
We always have food together!
We name and celebrate things that bring us joy and make us feel safe.
We identify things that cause us concern and make us feel unsafe.
At most sessions there is an opportunity to create something, from cake to craft.
Together we decide things we would like to focus on.
We invite people who are experts in those things to train us and do our own research to find out more.
We have training to give us more confidence and to help us involve other women, to give us a strong collective voice.
We make a plan and take action.
